The Famed Pancake Breakfast

Amber Stephens

Look, I’m not a breakfast person by any means; I’d rather have last night’s leftovers. But when it comes to pancakes and coffee…nothing beats it!  And no one makes better pancakes than our very own Rotary Club of Boulder City. I’ve been eating these pancakes since I was a kid, so I’m speaking from years of experience. And the coffee, well it doesn’t get better than Dam Roast House. 😉 Again, speaking from experience.

The Rotary Club of Boulder City has been providing  this amazing Pancake Breakfast since the 1950s!  Bill Blockley, the president of the club at the time, built a concession trailer for the breakfast to be served from. It was believed that while those guys were flippin’ flapjacks, they were also enjoying a beer or two.  Some even say the beer made it into the batter and created that unique “Pancake Breakfast” flavor that had people craving it year after year.  Don’t worry, word on the street is beer is no longer a secret ingredient, but that nostalgic “Pancake Breakfast” pancake is just as delicious as it was 75 years ago!

Naturally, the pancake breakfast became very popular and by the 90s', adjustments for that trailer were overdue.  Bill came to the rescue yet again.  He dismantled the old trailer and sat the grill on it's own individual trailer, allowing the Rotary Club to serve nearly 700 residents each year!

This once ticketed event is now FREE to the public as it has been for many years. The Rotarians felt that serving people pancakes was way more fun than selling tickets!  They've since put out a donation box to help cover cost.

We have been more than happy to help out the Rotary Club of Boulder City by donating coffee since we opened our doors in 2020 and plan to do so for years to come!

The pancake breakfast starts at 7am and goes until about 9am. There’s no better way to start your 4th.  Don’t forget to come say hi to us at Dam Roast House!  We are located right on the parade route and we will be slinging coffee and eats all morning!

Now that I’ve enticed you, here are all the deets for the day.

A special thank you to Amy Vandermark who provided us with a brief history of the event!  We appreciate you, the Rotary Club of Boulder City, and all the amazing volunteers who put this event on! Have a happy and safe 4th of July!

Oh, and P.S., Amy happens to be one of those volunteers and can confirm that there is no beer in the batter!😂
